What are web proxy servers (CGI proxy servers)?
Web proxy (CGI proxy/online proxy) is a kind of buffer between you and other web resources. When you request a web page directly, you are exposing your details to the server you connect to. CGI proxies (web proxies) are web sites which allow a user to access other sites through them. A user visits a CGI proxy web site and then requests a web page, a file or other resources available on other sites. Web proxy (online proxy) sends this request to the necessary site, gets "answer" and returns it to user. A web proxy allows a user to be anonymous and access web sites that may be restricted for users from certain countries or geographical regions. Web proxies are frequently used to gain access to web sites blocked by corporate or school proxies. As well as hiding user's IP address and providing a way to access blocked web sites, a web proxy can also block scripts, cookies, images, etc. Web proxys support HTTP and sometimes HTTPS and FTP protocols.
Web proxy servers (CGI proxy servers) anonymity
Web proxies (cgi proxies) can be divided into three types according to anonymity level.
Transparent proxy
Web proxies (CGI proxy servers) of this type are not anonymous. They don't hide IP-address of a client and let a web server know that you are surfing through a proxy server.
Anonymous proxy
These web proxy servers (online proxy servers) don't show your real IP but show that you are using proxy server.
High Anonymous proxy
These web proxy servers (CGI proxy servers) do not pass an IP-address of a client and don't send any variables indicating that you are using proxy server to host.
All types of web proxies (online proxy servers) can be used to bypass corporate proxys, school proxys and get access to web sites blocked by your local proxy (bypass corporate proxy, school proxy, etc).
If you want to be anonymous and access web sites that may be restricted for users from certain countries or geographical regions, you should use anonymous web proxy servers and high anonymous web proxy servers.
You don't need any special software to start using web proxy service (online proxy). Just open web proxy site in a browser, enter URL you want to visit in the address field and press the "Go" button.
But if you want to make your work web proxy servers (CGI proxys) more convenient, you can use special software that improves your work with web proxies (online proxies).

How you can organize surfing through CGI proxy servers (web proxys)
- surf through one CGI proxy (web proxy) - you can create a proxy service with only one CGI proxy (online proxy);
- surf through a proxy chain with CGI proxys (web proxys) - you can create proxy services with any number of proxy servers in the chain (HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4, SOCKS5, SOCKS5 with Auth and CGI proxies/web proxies). In the chain you can "mix" various types of proxies.
Proxy chains with CGI proxies:
HTTP proxy -> CGI proxy
HTTPS and/or SOCKS proxies -> HTTP proxy -> CGI proxy
Note:
• If you use CGI proxy (web proxy) in a chain, it should be the last one in the chain.
• You must use HTTP proxy before CGI proxy
• You can't use HTTP proxy at the beginning or in the middle of cascade (chain) before SOCKS and HTTPS as it doesn't support tunneling
Improved "Import/export proxy list" feature
Now using "Export proxies" feature, you can create custom proxy list. You can export selected proxies from program proxy list to *.txt and *.html files selecting the fields you need.
To export proxies from the proxy list:
Double-click the ProxyWay Pro/Extra tray icon or right-click the ProxyWay Pro/Extra tray icon and select the open main window item.
Click the Proxy button in the toolbar.
Select Proxy => Proxy list.
Choose the proxy/proxies you want to export and click the Export button or right-click on the selected proxies and select export in the context menu.
Choose what proxy list fields you want to export - select field(s) from the "All available fields" list and add them to the "Exported fields" list using "Add" button. If you put the check mark next to the "IP:Port format" field, proxy IP and proxy port will be exported in IP:port format. Note: you can also export other fields (with a chosen fields separator).
Choose fields separator.
Click the "Export" button.
Save proxies in *.txt or *.html files.

Different proxy list sites offer proxy lists in different formats:
- proxy ip:port without country in plain text format
- proxy ip:port with country in plain text format (country is separated from ip:port by tab)
- proxy ip:port with proxy country in table format (ip:port in one column, country in another one)
- proxy ip, proxy port and proxy country in different columns in table format
- "only IP" format for proxy pages with the same port number for all proxies if port information isn't placed near each proxy IP nut is placed e.g. only on the top of the page
If no proxy port information was found while proxy list updating, added ability to set a default proxy port for certain url (in program Settings).
Now Proxy Finder finds information about proxy country even if proxy list contains information about proxy IP and port in the same column.
If you update proxy list using Proxy Finder or import proxies from a local file and if you don't have or don't need proxy port column or proxy IP column, you can set up column number to zero.
Improved proxy list management
When you work with huge proxy lists it is necessary your work with proxy list to be convenient and you don't have to spend a lot of time to find the necessary proxy server in proxy list.
Now ProxyWay remembers current position in proxy list and in "Update proxy list" windows that is very useful if you work with a huge proxy list. If you work with the certain proxy and then you should update proxy list, create proxy service, etc, when you return to the proxy list, you will be on the proxy you worked before.
Also you can sort proxies list by proxy port, proxy type, proxy response time, proxy anonymity and proxy location.

• Select Proxy => Proxy list.

How to search proxy lists using ProxyWay
ProxyWay is proxy software that can be used for searching proxy lists (HTTP proxy lists, HTTPS proxys, SOCKS proxies lists, anonymous proxy servers lists, high anonymous proxy lists, transparent proxy servers). You can configure ProxyWay to search proxies (HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4, SOCKS4A, SOCKS5, SOCKS5 with Authentication) on the Internet and then check proxies for proxy status, proxy response time, proxy country, proxy type (Transparent, Anonymous or High Anonymous). Just specify URL(s) where proxy lists are located and Proxy Finder will automatically search proxy list information.

How to add proxy servers to program proxy list
- download and add proxies list using Proxy Finder;
- import proxies list from a local file;
- import CGI proxies from a local file;

Online proxy list update - download and add proxies list using Proxy Finder
Using the Update proxy list option, you can automatically add new proxies to your proxy list from the proxy lists in:
• the form of table - proxy list is formed as a table using special html tags;
• IP:port format (e.g. 155.255.111.22:80);
• "only IP" format (e.g. 155.255.111.22) - for proxy pages with the same port number for all proxies if port information isn't placed near each proxy IP (e.g. only on the top of the page).
To update proxy list using Proxy Finder:
Double-click the ProxyWay tray icon or right-click the ProxyWay tray icon and select the Open main window item.
Click the Proxy button in the toolbar.
Select Proxy => Proxy list => Update proxy list.
You can update proxy list using different urls/sites simultaneously.
Specify what url(s) you want to use for proxy list updating:
Import urls list from file: - to simplify proxy list updating, you can use our list of third-party proxy sites. Just click "Import" in "Update proxy list" window and select SiteList.txt.
Add url(s) for proxy list update manually - click the "Add to List" button and specify what proxy site url you want to use for proxy list updating.
If you want the url is used for proxy list Auto Update, put the check mark in "Use this url for proxy list update".
To add information about proxy location, click "Add country column" and enter country column number.
To add proxies only from certain countries, select the "Only Proxies from Specified Countries" option and select the necessary countries from the list. If you want to add all proxies, select the "Proxies from All Countries" option
for proxy pages with the same port number for all proxies if port information isn't placed near each proxy IP (e.g. only on the top of the page) and if no proxy port information was found while proxy list updating, you can set a default proxy port for certain url.
Click "Save" button.
To update proxy list immediately, select url(s) you want to use for proxy list updating (PUT the check mark in U column) and click the Update button. You can use "+" and "-" buttons to select/deselect all urls in the list.
Import proxies form local file to proxy list
Using "Import proxies" feature, you can import proxies from a local file in IP:port format or HTML format in the form of table.
To import proxies to the proxy list:
Double-click the ProxyWay tray icon or right-click the ProxyWay tray icon and select the open main window item.
Click the Proxy button in the toolbar.
Select Proxy => Proxy list.
Click the Import button or right-click and select import in the context menu.
Note: For importing proxies from *.html files you should pre-select column numbers for IP, port and country in "Update proxy list" window.
Choose the file with proxies and click the "Open" button.

Double-click the ProxyWay tray icon or right-click the ProxyWay tray icon and select the open main window item.
Click the Proxy button in the toolbar .
Select Proxy => Proxy list.
Click the Import CGI button.
Select CGIList.txt.
Click "Open".
To add a new proxy server (manually):
Double-click the ProxyWay tray icon or right-click the ProxyWay tray icon and select the open main window item.
Click the Proxy button in the toolbar.
Select Proxy => Proxy list.
Use the Add button or right-click on the table and select add in the context menu.
Select "Standard proxy".
Fill in IP and Port fields.
Select proxy type.
If you don't know the proxy type, select the "UNKNOWN" field. In this case you need to check it before using in a proxy service.
In case you know the proxy type, select the supported type. You can use this proxy in a proxy service without the prior checking. But in this case the "Anonymity" field will be "unknown" (if you haven't checked it manually or automatically). If you check this proxy, all the supported protocols will be shown in the "Protocol" field with the selected proxy type on the first place (if it is supported).
Click OK.
To add a CGI proxy (web proxy) server manually:
Double-click the ProxyWay tray icon or right-click the ProxyWay tray icon and select the open main window item.
Click the Proxy button in the toolbar.
Select Proxy => Proxy list.
Use the Add button or right-click on the table and select add in the context menu.
Select "CGI proxy".
Enter CGI proxy url and other information (if necessary).
Click OK.
To add a group of proxies using copy/paste commands
(from the proxy lists with the following format - ex. 1111.111.11.11:80 (should be one string with colon between IP and port) = IP:port):
Connect the web site with the proxy list.
Copy columns with proxy IP and Port.
Click the ProxyWay tray menu and select the Open main window item.
Click the Proxy button in the toolbar.
Select Proxy => Proxy list.
Right-click on the table and select paste in the context menu.
Check proxies in your proxy list
ProxyWay can be used for checking different proxy lists:
• Check HTTP proxy list, HTTPS proxy list, SOCKS4 proxy list, SOCKS5 proxy server lists
• Check proxy server speed
• Check proxy server anonymity (anonymous, high anonymous, transparent)
• Check proxy server functionality
• You can use internal or external script to check proxy list
To check proxy list, choose the proxy/proxies* you want to check and click the Check button.
To reduce the time of proxy checking, you can select only the necessary types of protocols and set the timeout for proxy checking in milliseconds in the program Settings.
How ProxyWay Pro improves checking proxy lists:
You can check up to 5 threads at once using "Multithreaded proxy check" in the program Settings.
ProxyWay Pro offers two options for proxy checking*:
• "Don't detect proxy location" - check proxies without detecting proxy location.
• "Detect proxy country" - check proxies with detecting proxy country (set by default)
* Detecting proxy country is only available in Activated version.
How ProxyWay Extra improves checking proxy lists:
You can check up to 10 threads at once using "Multithreaded proxy check" in the program Settings.
Note:
- If proxy sites offer information about proxy location, this informaiton will be added automatically
- Detecting proxy country/region/state using ProxyWay is available only in Activated version.
ProxyWay Extra offers three options for proxy checking* (Settings):
• "Don't detect proxy location" - check proxies without detecting proxy location.
• "Detect proxy country" - check proxies with detecting proxy country (set by default)
• "Detect proxy country and state/region"** - advanced proxy checking - check proxies with detecting proxy country and proxy region/state
* Detecting proxy country/region/state is available only in Activated version.
** While checking proxy with detecting proxy country and proxy region/state only 1 thread is available. If you check proxy without detecting proxy location or detect only proxy country, you can use up to 10 threads.
Note: "detecting proxy country" while proxy checking and "adding proxy country column" while proxy list updating are different independent features. So, to add information about proxy location you should select "Add proxy column" in "Update proxy list" window. But if you need more accurate proxy location information and/or you need detailed information (proxy country, state/region), we recommend you to use "Detect proxy country location" and "Detect proxy country and state/region" ProxyWay Extra features as most sites that provide proxy lists don't use up-to-date base for detecting proxy location.

What is a proxy server?
A proxy server is a kind of buffer between your computer and the Internet resource(s) you are accessing. The data you request come to the proxy first, and only then it transmits the data to you. A proxy server receives a request for an Internet service (such as a web page request) from a user. If the proxy server is also a cache server, it can use its local cache of previously downloaded web pages to provide the page without forwarding the request to the Internet. If the page is not in the cache, the proxy server uses one of its own IP addresses to request the page from the server on the Internet. When the page is returned, the proxy server relates it to the original request and forwards it to the user.
What is HTTP Proxy?
HTTP proxy server is a proxy allowing to work on the Internet with HTTP and (not always) FTP protocols. It can carry out caching of information downloaded from the Internet.
Now HTTP proxy servers are the most widespread. Their support (ability to use them) is included into many programs: browsers, download managers etc. However, their support is not realized at a level of an operating system - in order to use them, you should configure all programs, which should use proxies, in an appropriate way. HTTP proxy servers have several anonymity levels.
What is SOCKS Proxy?
SOCKS is a networking proxy protocol that enables hosts on one side of a SOCKS server to gain full access to hosts on the other side of the SOCKS server without requiring direct IP-reachability. SOCKS is often used as a network firewall, redirecting connection requests from hosts on opposite sides of a SOCKS server. The SOCKS server authenticates and authorizes requests, establishes a proxy connection, and relays data between hosts. There are two major versions of SOCKS: SOCKS4 and SOCKS5.
Anonymity of HTTP Proxy
•Transparent proxies
Transparent proxies are not anonymous. They don't hide IP-address of a client and let a web server know that you are surfing through a proxy server.
REMOTE_ADDR = proxy IP
HTTP_VIA = proxy IP
HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR = your IP
The task of such proxies, as a rule, is information caching and/or support of Internet access for several computers via single connection. Such proxies are not applicable for security and privacy while surfing on net. You can use them only for network speed improvement.
The function of such proxy servers is not the improvement of your anonymity in Internet. Their purpose is information cashing, organization of joint access to Internet of several computers, etc.
•Anonymous proxies
Anonymous proxies don't show your real IP but change the request fields so it is very easy to detect that you are using proxy.
REMOTE_ADDR = proxy IP
HTTP_VIA = proxy IP
HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR = proxy IP
•High Anonymous proxies
High Anonymous proxy servers do not pass an IP-address of a client and don't send any variables indicating that you are using proxy server to host and look like real browser.

HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR = not determined
What is anonymous surfing?
When you visit a web site, your IP address is packed into a special header. As this header is transferred from server to server and router to router, the header includes special variable containing yet again, your IP address.
These are some environment variables:
REMOTE_ADDR - IP address of a client
HTTP_VIA - if it is not empty, then a proxy is used. Value is an address (or several addresses) of a proxy server, this variable is added by a proxy server itself if you use one.
HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR - if it is not empty, then a proxy is used. Value is a real IP address of a client (your IP), this variable is also added by a proxy server if you use one.
HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE - what language is used in browser (what language a page should be displayed in)
HTTP_USER_AGENT - so called "a user's agent". For all browsers this is Mozilla. Furthermore, browser's name and version (e.g. MSIE 5.5) and an operating system (e.g. Windows 98) is also mentioned here.
HTTP_HOST - is a web server's name

Anonymous proxy servers hide your IP address saving you from vulnerabilities concerned with it. So you can safely surf the Internet and your information will never be used by hackers and spammers.

These proxies are not anonymous. They don't hide IP-address of a client and let a web server know that you are surfing through a proxy server. The task of such proxies, as a rule, is information caching and/or support of Internet access for several computers via single connection. Such proxies are not applicable for security and privacy while surfing on net. You can use them only for network speed improvement.
